Sonic hits 100K wallets and 17m transactions after testnet launch

Sonic, Solana’s first gaming L2 infrastructure platform, has reached two major milestones just days after the platform’s testnet launch.

On Thursday, Sonic revealed that its network had recorded more than 100,000 unique wallets and seen over 17 million transactions processed – all within a week of its Sonic Testnet Odyssey going live.

The Sonic team posted on X just 36 hours into the testnet launch, providing details that the protocol had surpassed 45,000 wallets and over 3.2 million transactions.

Commenting on the milestone and surge to today’s numbers, the Sonic team said it’s a testament to the massive demand as well potential of the Sonic protocol.

First atomic SVM Layer-2 for gaming on Solana

Today’s news comes just days after Sonic announced a $12 million Series A round led by crypto venture capital firm BITKRAFT Ventures. The protocol said the raise, which brought its total fundraise to $16 million, would go into driving further growth for the Solana gaming ecosystem.

The pioneering SVM layer-2 gaming platform plans use these funds to provide grants to projects. It also eyes fresh onboarding of new games and developers to the Solana network.

User interactions on Sonic games rises

On Wednesday, Sonic said its SVM-compatible protocol brings several built-in mechanisms that game developers can tap into to build and deploy games on Solana. That includes customizable gaming primitives and a sandbox environment, with these leveraging Solana fast network to deliver a great on-chain video game experience for users.

While still in testnet, Sonic has seen a significant number of transactions related to user interaction with Sonic native games such as Jogojogo, Rage Effect, Fomoney, and Lowlife Forms.

Sonic hopes to bring the Solana gaming ecosystem to the same level, or surpass, other segments such as DeFi, NFTs and SocialFi. In 2024, meme coins have also accounted for a huge chunk of user activity on Solana.

Events on the horizon that Sonic eyes for further traction include Solana Kick Off: Shenzhen event in partnership with RateX and the Kyoto Web3 Gaming Summer event scheduled for July.
