Crypto exchange Coinbase has narrowed the scope of its subpoena to Gary Gensler, the Chair of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Initially, the exchange sought access to both current and past private communications of SEC Chair Gary Gensler. However, following a display of reluctance from Judge Katherine Polk Failla, a recent filing on July 15 indicates that Coinbase will now only request records from Gensler’s tenure starting in April 2021.

Legal representatives for Coinbase had previously maintained that Gensler’s private chats, dating back to 2017, would provide essential insights for their defense.
