Notcoin is set to launch a new story-driven Web3 game in collaboration with the NFT collection Lost Dogs and the NFT Marketplace Getgems. With this effort, the project aims to engage users more meaningfully while attempting to shed its image of being “just” a crypto project.
By incorporating elements of storytelling and character-driven gameplay, the developers hope to create a more immersive and engaging experience for players.
This is a unique step, especially since it comes on the back of Notcoin’s exceeding popularity over the last few months.
Vying for long-term growth
However, according to the project itself, the current tap-to-earn model is not unsustainable for long-term growth. This model typically rewards players for repetitive, simple actions, which can lead to short-term engagement but fails to retain users in the long run.
Recognizing this limitation, the new game will focus on providing a richer gaming experience that encourages deeper involvement and long-term player retention.
In the upcoming game, participants will be able to earn a new in-game token – WOOF – by playing with Lost Dogs NFTs as characters and completing various tasks. This innovative approach integrates NFTs into the gameplay, adding value to the digital assets and offering players new ways to interact with their collections. The collaboration with Getgems, an NFT marketplace, will ensure that players have a platform to trade and acquire these digital assets.
Sky-high popularity
For its part, Notcoin has seen a surge in popularity lately. This rise can be attributed to the increasing interest in crypto-based games and the unique tap-to-earn model that initially attracted a large user base.
In fact, its active user base hit the 40 million mark back in July, within weeks of the game’s launch in May. Its token – TON – has also registered significant hikes on the price charts over the past few months. However, it’s worth noting that these periods of appreciation haven’t been without bouts of depreciation too.
However, as the developers acknowledge the limitations of this model, they are pivoting towards more sustainable and engaging approaches, such as the upcoming story-driven game.
Thank you, Telegram?
Notcoin isn’t the only example though. Telegram-based clicker games are immensely popular, with the likes of Tapswap and Hamster Kombat doing very well too. The latter, for instance, hit 144 million users in just 100 days a few weeks ago.
What explains such popularity though? According to analysts, simplicity of gaming features has gone a long way towards onboarding these many millions of users. In fact, according to Alex Kruger, they might just emerge to be more popular than memecoins.
“Memecoins need new mechanics, such as those seen with Notcoin.”
