Chicago’s Hottest Club Is the American Legion Post

To keep their social hubs open, veterans service organizations like the Legion and VFH are hosting karaoke, comedy nights and pro wrestling events.
Just south of O’Hare Airport, a long freight train rolled through the Chicago suburb of Franklin Park. As the locomotive’s horn faded, another sound emerged from the sand-colored brick building that sits a few steps from the tracks. The cheers and screams, accompanied by occasional thuds, were all emanating from Friday night’s hottest spot: American Legion Post 974.
Inside, there’s a bar lined with patriotic memorabilia, posters of Wrigley Field, a glass display case of Purple Hearts and signs instructing patrons not to curse. The low ranch-style building’s rental hall usually hosts bingo nights, baby showers, quinceañeras and graduations. But since 2020 this has also been the home of monthly professional wrestling matches from Chicago Style Wrestling — a regional independent version of the WWE.
