CEO Brian Armstrong highlighted the potential of large language models (LLMs), like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, to handle finance-related tasks when integrated with crypto technology. Armstrong emphasized, "LLMs should have crypto wallets. Let’s help AI agents get work done on your behalf and participate in the economy."
Armstrong announced that Coinbase has launched an AI accelerator grant program, offering $3,000 to five projects that merge artificial intelligence with crypto wallets. This initiative aims to empower AI economically by equipping it with transaction capabilities.
Coinbase's engineering lead, Yuga Cohler, demonstrated the "AI Wallets" feature, showcasing a scenario where users are paid for participating in AI training sessions. In this setup, users select the best image from a set, and upon completing the task, receive payment directly to their crypto wallet. This mirrors platforms like Amazon’s Mechanical Turk, where users earn for simple tasks, but with the added dimension of AI handling transactions.
Coinbase’s Developer Platform announced a $15,000 grant program to explore such use cases. The goal is to develop a useful AI "bot" using LLMs capable of connecting to Coinbase’s multiparty computation wallets. The grant seeks to overcome a significant hurdle: AI systems currently lack the ability to manage bank accounts for automated payments, which building on-chain can resolve.
