U.S. presidential debate ignores crypto, disappointing many

"We need to take control of our own narrative and show politicians that crypto innovation isn't going anywhere," one expert told TheStreet Crypto.

On Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump participated in their first presidential debate, discussing immigration, the economy, abortion, and other key issues likely to galvanize the electorate.

However, one issue that was notably absent from the debate was crypto. Its omission, however, did not come as a surprise to millions of crypto voters who are still waiting for Vice President Harris to formally announce her plans for crypto and indicate if a future Harris administration will offer a new vision for crypto compared to Joe Biden’s crypto policies.

"Yesterday's presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris was disappointing for crypto, but not unexpected,” Tim Kravchunovsky, CEO of the decentralized telecommunications network Chirp, told TheStreet Crypto. Although the debate was anticlimactic for crypto voters, it also underscored the lack of urgency surrounding digital assets for either Trump or Harris.

“It was simply proof that crypto is nowhere near as important to either presidential candidate as it is to us in the Web3 world,” Kravchunovsky explained.

“Over the last few months, the entire crypto ecosystem has all but come to a standstill waiting for the outcome of the U.S. election. But while crypto may still get more limelight in the next presidential debate, we shouldn't pin all our hopes on politics,” Kravchunovsky said. “Instead, as we await the U.S. election, we should focus on what we do best – building our infrastructure, launching our tokens, forging key partnerships.”

Some in the crypto and Web3 community believe that it is imperative for business leaders to take action and spearhead innovation instead of waiting for the government to promote the nascent technology.

November’s election may not change much for crypto in the short-term, Kravchunovsky said: “It may not be as profound as many seem to think. Crypto isn't anywhere near as high on the agenda as many are hoping, so it's up to us in the Web3 ecosystem to spearhead innovation. Let's stop waiting for the Fed, the election, and other macro events to dictate our timelines. We need to take control of our own narrative and show politicians that crypto innovation isn't going anywhere."
