The stock market is on track to close the week with one of its best performances of the year, following Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential race and another round of interest rate cuts, boosting tech stocks such as MicroStrategy (MSRT) to soar 52-week high.
MSTR shares are trading on the Nasdaq at $271.26 at the time of this writing, nearly 20% up over the past five days. The enterprise analytics and mobility software company has seen its shares skyrocket 486% over the past 12 months, mostly thanks to its Bitcoin (BTC) reserves strategy.
The company, founded by Bitcoin advocate Michael Saylor, currently holds a portfolio of over 250,000 Bitcoin, worth over $19 billion at current prices. MicroStrategy recently disclosed a plan to buy $42 billion worth of Bitcoin by 2027.
Other Bitcoin-linked stocks also had a strong week. Shares of Bitcoin mining company CleanSpark (CLSK) rose 35% in the week, while crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN) — one of the biggest donors in the US election — saw its stock soar by more than 48%.
Investor optimism is being driven by expectations of a more favorable economic environment under Trump’s reelection and further easing by the Federal Reserve. In September 2024, the Fed cut interest rates by 0.5 percentage points, its first reduction in over four years. On Nov. 7, it followed up with another 0.25-point cut, bringing the federal funds rate to 4.5% – 4.75%.
