Google Cloud becomes main validator on Cronos blockchain

Google Cloud has become the main validator of the Cronos blockchain, showcasing the growing adoption of cryptocurrency by global technology giants.

As an expansion of its strategic partnership with Cronos Labs, Google Cloud will become the main validator on the blockchain, aiming to bring more technical innovation and increase developer adoption on the network.

The partnership is a sign of Google Cloud strengthening its commitment to the Web3 space, according to Rishi Ramchandani, the head of Web3 APAC at Google Cloud. He wrote:

“Google Cloud will also collaborate with Cronos to provide developers with the resources they need to build the next generation of decentralized applications, leveraging Google Cloud’s secure infrastructure, advanced AI capabilities, and powerful data analytics tools.”

As the primary validator, Google Cloud is joining a pool of 32 validators on the Cronos Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) protocol, contributing to the security and decentralization of the network by producing and confirming new blocks.

Large firms are joining the Web3 space

The partnership marks Cronos Labs’ aim to work with increasingly more open-source contributors and validators with advanced technical capabilities.

Other notable Cronos blockchain validators include Crypto.com, Blockdaemon, Ubisoft and Exaion.

A growing number of global giants, like Google Cloud, are joining the Web3 space, with more developer-centric firms expected to follow suit, according to Ken Timsit, the managing director at Cronos Labs.

Timsit told Cointelegraph:

“The Web3 space is difficult to ignore for any developer-centric company given the enormous amount of open-source development and innovation happening here. As far as we can tell, this trend is not specific to 2024, it has been going on for several years.”

As the primary cloud provider on Cronos, Google Cloud brings tangible value to end-users and developers on the network, according to Timsit, who added:

“First, it enhances the security and reliability of the whole network. Second, it makes the Cronos Accelerator program even more appealing to startups. Finally, it opens the door to the creation of a new generation of innovative decentralized applications using Google Cloud’s data processing, computing and AI capabilities.”

Other large firms exploring Web3 technologies include luxury carmakers Lamborghini and Ferrari, Amazon Web Services, and even clothing brands such as Dolce & Gabanna, Nike and Adidas.
