Pump.fun’s community notice has brought in urgent moderation changes

Pump.fun, which recently took a lot of flak over an ugly abuse of their livestream, has sent out a plea for urgent moderation reforms from the community.

The livestream pool was intended as a source of support for creators and socialization, but after being used in a very unfortunate way, the crypto community was left stunned.

The issue came to light when Beau, who works as a safety product manager at Pudgy Penguins, tweeted about how a user was threatening to die by self-harming if their token did not reach a certain market cap, with alleged reports of another individual who took their own life. All in all, the platform was quick to take action and disabled the live stream feature. Further, they have decided to provide support to viewers who were impacted.

On Nov. 25, 2024, they released a community message that addressed the recent events and explained their response. The team expressed regret for the situation and recognized the harm that had occurred. The team further acknowledged the community’s concern and repeated their dedication to safety by outlining their existing measures, which include removing inappropriate content and flagging NSFW materials.

“I admit that our moderation isn’t perfect, so if you’re aware of a coin where moderation isn’t enforced, please report it in our support channels immediately”

quoted alon, the moderator of Pump.fun on their X post.

“Furthermore, we doubled the number of human moderators and have continued to invest in improving moderation systems that help human moderators tackle inappropriate content swiftly, as well as automated moderation systems that tackle inappropriate content straight away.”, read the message

The community reacts:

At first, the crypto community was dismayed by the deeply disturbing events. Still, Pump.fun’s quick turnaround with effective and zealous measures has brought about a sense of relief back to the community.

I see. But wouldn't be even better for modding purposes to add a "Report" feature? Where if N amount of reports are given to a certain stream, it gets shutdown automatically? Based on the fact that a zillion pumpfuns are created daily and sometimes is hard to have an eye on…

Many users suggested disabling NSFW by default, while others requested a ‘report’ option so users can flag untoward content, helping moderators catch sight of it sooner. Their choice to pause live streams and focus more on reforming their moderation shows that the team is dedicated to creating a safer space for its users.
