Alberta site powers Gryphon’s ambitious leap into AI and Bitcoin’s future

Gryphon Digital Mining is charting a transformative path by blending traditional energy solutions with advanced AI capabilities.
In a recent conversation, Roundtable anchor, Rob Nelson, and Steve Gutterman, CEO of Gryphon Digital Mining, explored the company’s latest milestone: Acquiring 850 acres of land in Alberta, Canada. This site, equipped with natural gas pipelines and carbon sequestration capabilities, is set to power Gryphon’s dual focus on bitcoin mining and AI computing, marking a significant step in redefining how energy assets are utilized in the digital age.
Gutterman highlighted the strategic importance of their Alberta acquisition, which he described as a “truly unique site” featuring natural gas pipelines, grid connectivity, and onsite carbon sequestration. “The name of the game is power,” Gutterman said, emphasizing that the site will provide the energy needed for Gryphon’s dual focus on bitcoin mining and AI operations. He also praised the support of Alberta’s government and the expertise of the site’s leadership, calling it a "world-class management team."
Nelson noted the closeness of traditional land acquisition with Gryphon’s innovative use of energy. “You’re not selling the land; you’re using it to create something people need that has nothing to do with the land itself,” he said, pointing out how Gryphon bridges the old-world value of property with the demands of the digital age. Gutterman echoed this sentiment, framing the company’s work as applying “low-tech, old-school” solutions to solve high-tech problems, particularly in meeting the immense energy demands of AI development.
Looking ahead, Gutterman discussed how Gryphon’s energy-focused strategy aligns with the growing need for power in AI computing. “By 2030, we’re going to need 75 to 100 gigawatts of incremental power for AI computing,” he explained, positioning Gryphon as a leader in what he described as the “new currency” of successful companies: Energy. This approach not only supports their AI ambitions but also strengthens their bitcoin mining operations as a near-term revenue generator.
When asked about Gryphon’s identity five years down the line, Gutterman embraced a broader vision. “Our bitcoin mining business is a great bridge to our AI compute revenue,” he said, adding that while mining may diminish over the next decade, their investments in energy infrastructure and AI will continue to drive value. Nelson summarized the company’s mission succinctly: “Gryphon, powering the energy of the future.”
As Gryphon Digital Mining continues to merge the realms of traditional energy and advanced technology, it exemplifies how companies can leverage established resources to innovate for the future. With its Alberta site and long-term strategy, Gryphon is poised to play a significant role in shaping the infrastructure of tomorrow’s digital economy.
