On March 21, Dogecoin co-creator Billy Markus said on X (formerly Twitter) that he would love to see the social networking application shift its focus from its “current political screaming” to creators like earlier. He further said that creator tools have been completely ignored.
X owner and chairman Elon Musk was quick to ask Markus to "help build" creator tools on the platform.
Markus, who goes by the pseudonym Shibetoshi Nakamoto on X, added that politics is the "true cancer" and it ruins everything, “especially brains.”
Founded in 2006, Twitter was acquired by Elon Musk in October 2022, which he rebranded to X in July 2023.
Musk is also well-known for his support of the DOGE meme coin. On April 2, 2019, he called it his “fav cryptocurrency” on Twitter. He referred to it as the "best coin" in a post on March 3, 2020. Over the years, he has made several cryptic tweets referring to DOGE on the social media platform.
Once Donald Trump took over as the President of the United States, he appointed Musk as his senior advisor and as the de facto head of the Department of Government Efficiency. The department’s acronym is a risible nod to the meme coin.
Created by Markus along with his friend Jackson Palmer, DOGE is the first meme coin. Launched in December 2013, it inspired a flurry of other meme coins such as Shiba Inu, Bonk, and dogwifhat.
As per Kraken’s price feeds, DOGE was trading at $0.1659 at press time.
