For years, many cities have been using artificial intelligence and algorithms to aid police work and analyze government data. Now with generative AI tools such as ChatGPT going mainstream, urban leaders are looking to bring this technology directly into City Hall with a mixture of enthusiasm and caution.
Next month, a group of more than 100 mayors from around the world will participate in a conversation and workshop on generative AI, discussing the technology’s potential use cases at the city level and how to introduce it responsibly and effectively. The convening, called the Mayors Innovation Studio, will be part of this October’s Bloomberg CityLab conference in Washington, DC, hosted by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with the Aspen Institute.
