Former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng, facing 10 years in prison after being convicted in New York of helping loot billions of dollars from Malaysia's 1MDB sovereign wealth fund, will be returned to that country, where he faces related charges. In a letter filed on Thursday in Brooklyn federal court, U.S. prosecutors asked a judge to order Ng's surrender to the U.S. Marshals Service by Friday so he could be turned over to Malaysian law enforcement, who would transport him to their country. Ng would be required upon returning to the United States to begin his prison term.

X removes article headlines in latest platform update, widening a rift with news media
X, formerly known as Twitter, has stopped showing headlines on articles shared on the platform. Now, X only displays an article’s lead image and a link to the story. Plans for the change were first reported by Fortune in August, when owner Elon Musk confirmed in a post that he thought the change— which came from him “directly” — would “greatly improve the esthetics” of posts.

EV maker Rivian shares tumble after launch of $1.5 billion convertible bond offering
Shares of Rivian Automotive Inc fell by more than 20% on Thursday, after the electric vehicle maker unveiled plans to issue $1.5 billion worth of convertible green bonds. Irvine, California-based Rivian expects the bonds, which will mature in October 2030 and can be converted to either cash or its shares, will help it to "de-risk" the launch of its R2 sports utility vehicle in Georgia, a company spokesperson told Reuters on Wednesday. It is the second time in less than a year that Rivian is issuing such a green bond, which raises capital from investors seeking to back climate-focused projects.

Costco is seeing a gold rush. What's behind the demand for its 1-ounce gold bars?
Looking for something to add to your Costco cart along with the 30 rolls of toilet paper? While not a typical outlet for the sale of precious metals, the members-only warehouse chain has seen its 1-ounce gold bars sell out faster than discounted 170-ounce jugs of laundry detergent. In a company earnings call last week, CFO Richard Galanti said the gold bars, sold exclusively online, are “typically gone within a few hours” of appearing on Costco's website — adding that there's a two-bar limit per member.

High Gas Prices Reek of Low Cigarette Sales
The OPEC oil cartel holds a lot of sway over what U.S. drivers pay at the pump, but factors closer to home are having a surprising impact: cigarette sales and convenience store wages. The first time the U.S. crude-oil benchmark reached $90 a barrel in October 2007, retail gasoline prices were $2.82 a gallon. One quantifiable change is the tightening of renewable fuel standards, which added about 10 cents to 15 cents a gallon to refiners’ cost of compliance over that period, according to an estimate from energy economist Philip Verleger.
