There are some signs that consumer spending is starting to slow. One group that is likely to feel that slowdown more acutely than others are small businesses. Debra Moore, founder of Mama Moore's Gourmet Popcorn, explains that as a small business, the rising costs of goods "is very scary." Moore notes she often has no choice but to offset price hikes to consumers, sometimes resulting in decreased store sales. Kyle Noonan, Co-Founder of FreeRange, acknowledges the challenges faced by the restaurant industry due to escalating prices for goods alongside the impact of rising labor costs. Given their thin profit margins, combating the cost of goods and labor expenses against consumer spending constraints, has proven challenging in the current economic conditions, Noonan says. "The one thing is every industry, every business is facing the same challenges," Noonan tells Yahoo Finance in regards to pressures on profitability, adding, "and the good businesses, the good operators will still figure out a way to make it work."
