The streaming platform added a map to its end-of-year roundup of listening habits. It revealed something not-so-surprising about how geography and music taste are linked.
When Spotify released Wrapped — its year-end roundup of users’ listening habits — on Wednesday, the streaming platform introduced a new way of interpreting taste: a map.
Based on the hours (and hours and hours) of music consumed, listeners were matched with their “Sound Town,” or the place where other fans of their favorite artists come from. No matter if you’ve never lived there, or even visited. Your Sound Town, Spotify seems to be saying, is where you belong.
